This summer I got the amazing opportunity to do a paid internship with Artist Working in Education. It was through this that I was able to travel around Milwaukee to a different park every week. Through these photos I hope to communicate not only charmisma of the kids I worked with but their complexity as well. At the end of the day, art is a universal language and no matter what part of town I was in, each child simply wanted to be listened to and to be valued.
Milwaukee Neighborhoods
This summer I had to travel around most of Milwaukee, as my job had me going around to different parks every week. I was raised most of my life in Milwaukee but with its problem with segregation I rarely get to go outside of Southside. Still this summer I was able to travel to distinct neighborhoods in the East Side, Southside and Northside. I also included some fun moments that I shared with my family and friends.
Newport, Oregon Roadtrip
Towards the end of summer I traveled all the way to the Pacific-coast to Oregon. Now I didn’t know much about Oregon except I knew that it was probably going to be rainy, well that was the least of it. Although it was cold and wet the area was very scenenic and was a completely different landscape.
Yellowstone Park
On my way back to Milwaukee, I actually made a quick stop through Yellowstone National Park. It was a tremendous change of pace to be surround in complete woods. Here, miles of silence were adorned by the wildlife and plant-life and every turn showcased why Montana is the big sky state.
